With just over a mile of LHB, Wiggaton has long provided good brown trout fishing and, at times, good numbers of grayling. Trout season runs from 15 March to 30 September and Grayling 16 June to 31 October.Say it quietly but, like the other beats on the Ottery, it too is a cracker! There is a good head of trout around the 10” mark although it produced a monster of 2lb in the past. The beat has a number of deep corner pools and fishy spots and usually benefits from a good mayfly hatch. Easily accessible with a range of runs and pools makes this a popular beat. Another year with not enough attention, but despite the quite fishing, it still produced plenty of brown trout and a chance grayling.
Information & restrictions
Fly only. All trout under 7” must be returned, no more than 2 trout to be retained per day. Please return all grayling.
Directions & access
From Launceston take the B3254 north. As you leave the town turn left to Egloskerry. Follow this road through Egloskerry and down to Canworthy Water. At the T Junction turn right. Follow the road over the river and round to the right. Start up the hill and after 100m there is a gateway on your right next to a rough verge. Some anglers park here and go through the gate and walk along and then down to the top of the beat. Alternatively, some parking is available at the upstream end of the beat where the Public Footpath meets the road. The top of the beat can be accessed via the Public Footpath.
