About Beat 12: Gortleigh

1900m of double and single bank brown trout fishing with the chance of sea trout and salmon given good water in May, June and September. There are a number of good pools and runs with a nice mixture of open water and more challenging fishing. An extensive and varied beat it now includes the field below the bridge.

Information & restrictions

Fly only. All trout under 8” must be returned, no more than 2 trout, 2 sea trout or 1 salmon to be retained per angler per day. Sorry, no dogs. Holiday accommodation is available at South Hill within 600m of the fishing. Tel: 01409 231291. Brown trout season: 15th March - September 30th. Salmon Season 1st March - 30th September.

Directions & access

Approach Black Torrington from the south. Proceed through the village and over the River Torridge, continue on the road and approximately 50 yards past the Sheepwash turn there is a field gate on the left. Enter through it and park on the hard standing in the field. DO NOT OBSTRUCT THE GATEWAY. The box is through the gate on the right. There is a footbridge opposite the parking area giving access to the middle section of river and leat. The lower field is accessed by walking back down the road and entering through the field gate on the left.
