This is a lovely and extensive trout beat with 1700m of mixed single and double bank. This part of the Torridge has an excellent mayfly hatch in early June although it is fairly heavily shaded in places so fishing from within the river and casting under the trees is essential to cover this beat effectively. With over a hundred good sized trout and a 16” peel on the returns, Lane Barton has consistanlty produced the goods.
Information & restrictions
Fly only. All trout under 8” must be returned, no more than 2 trout to be retained per day. Dogs allowed under close control. Brown trout season: 15th March - September 30th.
Directions & access
From Holsworthy take the A388 heading towards Bideford. Cross over the River Waldon and the River Torridge. Just after crossing the River Torridge take a right hand turn sign posted Newton St Petcock. Climb the hill to Newton St Petcock and then turn right at the church. Follow the Road past the farm and down the hill and park on the left hand side of the bend within the pull in. Proceed through the gate where the box is on the left. Post your tokens and then follow the stream down to the river.
